You should listen to your mom, there really is no reason to be hanging out with anyone that much older than you when your still in school. your mom does know what's best. But after you finish school there isn't anything wrong with that.

In this case age does not matter but listen to mom also
ask her and him to go out with u and have fun together so ur mom will know him better and see how you to are .
