It sounds like you want to build a good pc for gaming. So the most important component will be the video card. The best card in your price range would be the Radeon x1900 xtx 512 MB. I saw it on pricewatch for $329. You Should get DDR2 800 Mhz (not 667, like the above poster said). Get 2 GB of RAM for now, and get a good brand like Kingston, Corsair, or Crucial. The ram will cost about $400. The best processor in your price range will be the Core 2 duo e6600 2.4 Ghz with 4mb L2 cache. It's about $330. Get either an Asus or Gigabyte motherboard that will support SLI and has Gigabit LAN. That shouldn't cost more than $150. So I think all that puts you at around $1500 or less, and you have a serious kick-butt machine.

Intel Core 2 Duo with Intel motherboard - go to Intel.com for info.
Find one that uses DDR2 667Mhz RAM - Kingston brand
hard drive - Seagate has a 5 year warranty
nvidia.com for your video card
pricegrabber.com will give you a range of prices

BTW, Alienware was bought by Dell.

Sorry, I'm not looking up all the info and prices for you - I do that all day at work. It's your computer so do your own research.

there is a lesser version of that alienware computer that is almost identical to what your asking except not as good for the video card, and possibly not that sound card.

just try looking for the lower end version of that pc.

Why would you get an SLI motherboard if you are gonna get an ATI card. Just had to say that, okay I will provide links to the parts on newegg, buy them somewhere else if you can find them cheaper.

This is assuming you don't need any software like Windows, if you do, let me know and I can reconfigure some stuff.
