Most patients are kept in hospital gowns as much as possible. Most patients in ICU have numerous IV's and tubes. If the staff is leaving the patient naked and exposed to everyone walking by or stopping to say "hello"...that is just poor nursing. Make a request that your loved one is dressed appropriately. I know that most patients want to wear they own night clothing....but sometimes there is just too much going on with tubes, IV's,ect....
I hope this helps...just talk to the nurses and make your request known...they cant correct it if you dont say something...if there is a special need for the patient to be naked...they can explain that to you

It depends entirely on the hospital. Some choose to keep ICU patients covered only with a sheet so they can get instant access to them should a medical emergency arise. Others provide a skimpy gown but are not afraid to strip it off the patient if necessary.
Thing to realize is that while you are in an ICU unit, the doctors and nurses providing your treatment, changing dressings and keeping you clean are always seeing your fully nude body anyway so whether you wear a gown or are naked really doesn't matter. In fact, once you are admitted to a hospital for surgery or as a result of a major accident, almost every doctor or nurse who works on you will see you totally naked so you might as well check your modesty at the door.

Not quite sure of your question, but I'll answer it the best I can. They keep patients in the ICU in gowns becasue you really shouldn't (and with all of the tubes and IV's and such) move them too much. As a Licensed Nurse Assistant I know how hard it would be to work with clothed patients. Picture trying to help some one with clothes on, who can barely move (if they can move at all) to use the bedpan, or take vitals, or change IV's, etc. They will most likely have a hospital gown on, I don't think they can be naked.
