Indention of paragraph or an extra space between paragraph.

I have seen both used. Is there a rule of thumb when one is used over the other?

Thanks

Not to worry about me trying to make it look like I am trying to make the paper longer. I am wanting to know proper format for a non-personal document.

This is for the University so I have written many many papers.

I know the proper font, and new times roman 12pt and proper margins. I am ust wonder about the indention vs. space.

I don't know why people need to slam someone or be rude. If you read the on how to write a research paper often papers are writen with an additional space.

The teacher has requested all paper double spaced. Again that was not the question.

Thanks anyhow!!! I really don't think you understand what I mean.

I will just use the APA format guide.

Here is an example of an article written without indenting.

Formatting

The body of the review should use 12pt font with line spacing of 1.5 lines, and text should be fully justified (aligned to both left and right margins). Use standard margins of 1” on all sides. Each paragraph should start with a 0.5 inch indention with no extra spaces between paragraphs.

Whatever your instructor wants is how to do it. I took Biology writing in college and that instructor wanted double spaced throughout because it gave him room for writing corrections when he graded. You still indent each paragraph no matter the spacing. Don't put an extra space between paragraphs. If you have written many, many papers, as you say you have, you really should know more about this stuff.

don't do an extra space between paragraphs!! it looks like you're trying to lengthen your paper and cheat the teacher. do times new roman, font 12, regular margins, and at least 500 words. (it sounds like a lot but its really not as bad as it seems).
if ur still unsure, talk to your professor and see if he has a way that he would like you to format your paper
