The prices are pretty much the same everywhere. I volunteer at my stable and get free lessons for it, so you might have to do that.

Hi,

I help rescue foals from Slaughter but, it sounds like you are looking for a mature horse.
In every community there are abused horses and you might find a perfectly good horse that is in foster care now.
Call your local humane society or sherriff to see if they know of any in your area.
Some of these horses might be under weight, a little afraid of people or have developed a couple bad habits from the abuse or loneliness.
Give this a try and try to look past some of these issues if your a good horse women.
Food, time and love can go a long way.
Also just research rescue sites. We offer 2-4 year olds usually green broke for around 500 dollars. I bet there's a ton of rescues offering the same age group and price range.
I do not believe in selling a horse for less than that. Sometimes when people get something for free they don't care for it the same way. Not all people but, this is common. Also these prices keep the kill buyers away.
Good luck.

Try horse rescue, there are so many good horses that are up for slaughter for no other reason than horse meat has a high price. There are several organizations that take former race horses or horses who never made it has a race horse a saves them from an untimely death. Perfectly healthy thoroughbreds destroyed for no reason. If you are an experienced horse rider you could also go do it on your own and pay nothing for the horse other than a few hundred dollars. I have trained and ridden jumpers and dressage horses for years, and one of my best jumpers was a rescued horse. I paid $250.00 for him at a slaughter auction and sold him for $16,000.00. There are diamonds among the rough.
There are also over 30,000 foals purebreds of every breed killed every year from the makers pf Premarin. The company just wants the urine from the mares so they do not care for the foals. You can adopt the foals and mares for around $850.00 from some of the rescue organizations.
All of theses are perfectly healthy horses that just need homes, for very little money.

I agree...lots of horses need new homes. You might find one at a humane society, or a rescue center.
I leave near a race track and there are TBs off the track for sale all the time. Usually no more than $1K.
You said you were experienced, so just some time and lots of patience and you can have a nice TB.
Good luck, and so sorry your horseless. :(

Advertise locally, in shops and stuff if you know people on other yards tell them what u are looking for and ask them to tell others. Only be honest about your capabilities. I own a four year old thouroughbred and don't have time to ride during the week now it's getting dark in the evenings. The amount of people who mess u around is frightening!!!
Good luck....

I have the same problem, my 18 yr old cbXtb was found dead in the field a few weeks ago, and having sold my sec c mare to give me more time with him I am now sans equine.
Riding schools are a nightmare if you have owned your own horses all your life. I am fortunate enough to be in the position to buy myself a new one, but if you arent as lucky, then try and find one on loan or part loan.

You could look for a horse share its very good but be careful don't do it with a teenager or anybody under 25. I don't say this too be mean but i have experince whit sharing and if you share with a younger person they are likerly to go out and phone you to bring/turn out the horse and you cant really say no. A older person has more exsperience so they could also teach you alot too.

Now is the time when lots of people are going to be wanting to sell there horses because they have to start feeding them more, especially if there arent getting used, I would look at local feedstore and sometimes you can get free horse magazines at feedstores that have horses for sale and they are somtimes pretty cheap!

Rather than a riding school, you could try asking at a livery yard if anyone needs help exercising their horses. I have someone to help me out with my horse because it can be difficult with work commitments. She doesnt pay but if she rides she also mucks him out, feeds etc. Try and find a DIY livery yard because owners who have to do all their own mucking out etc are more likely to need a helping hand.

i could make as lots extra money babysitting and save it in a checking account for as quickly as I have been given my horse--labored great, and then while i became old adequate to have an exact interest I made adequate to make my dream a actuality. you additionally can volunteer to artwork on the barn, after which you get extra time around the horses. additionally, in case you have any acquaintances who do very own horses ask them in the event that they ever prefer you to preserve/journey their horse mutually as they are on holiday (or in the event that they are upperclassmen in extreme college I assure there will be some weeks the place they only have too lots artwork to get out to the barn and could get excitement from some help). i understand i could prefer to have somebody such as you around my barn to assist me out in that way.
