Fitness keeps you strong and healthy. Without it you will gain fat not muscle. It also keeps your lungs and heart strong as it is a muslce too. You need cardio at least 3x per week and strength training at least 2x per week but 3 is best.
You can bike walk run sports or jump on a trampoline.
For strength work out a gym or floor exercises with weights or work that requires using your large muscles.

It's important most of all because it prevents disease and injury. On top of all of that being fit gives you a better perspective on life and can make you a happier person.
