I think Fox exists because of consumer demand for a fair and balanced network. I hate CBS which tries to do all my thinking for me (aside from making stuff up completely).

I can think for myself.

If Fox dropped dead today than tomorrow another network would pop up just like it because the market demands such reporting.

I don't think Fox lead a revolution. I think Fox is the consequence of CBS, ABC, CNN and NBC blowing their credability with a sizable chuck of the thinking public. I absolutely will not watch the other networks at all and a lot of people feel the same.

I think it's fairer to say that Fox news is a reaction to CNN, not traditional network news. CNN does tilt to the left, so Fox tilts to the right.

Incidentally, Fox isn't nearly the monolith that some folks seem to assume it is - it has a less than 20% market penetration. I'm certain that there are people who defend it and speak on its behalf without ever having watched it, somewhat like those polls that ask people about their media habits, and they give a "prestige" answer, and claim to be watching/listening to public television/public radio more than they actually are.

Given how few people are watching Fox news, it would seem therein lies your answer - yes, the other 80% of the viewing public also have opinions. Whether that translates into actually getting up off their lazy butts and getting to the polls is the perennial question.

If it weren't for FOX News, the American public might be capable of forming unbiased opinions on political issues.

May your days be truly joyful.

Fox news should have to call itself what it really is... A 24hr infomercial for the Republican party. Rupert Murdock's personal reach-around for the GOP.

You actually buy that "Fair and Balanced" line? Give me a huge break! What's the "balance"? Colmes (a weasily looking former stand-up comedian)?
