Yes there is a name for it and people are in prison for it...You are so right.

OK it's easy to say that until recently, Christian society men married young girls but in this 21st Century, we are more educated and we understand the damage these kinds of acts can do to a child. Let me say it again...21st Century....

While in the West, we find this practise distasteful I think we should not take a blinkered view.
By the onset of menstruation, nature determines when a woman is ready to breed and while nine seems pretty obscene, the age of consent at 16 in many western countries is over-kill.
In nineteenth century England the age on consent was 12. Nowadays, girls reach puberty much earlier than then, so a realistic age for of consent is probable somewhere between the East's 9 and the West's 16.

It has allways been very uncomplicated. the european the Aristocracy ever married of their own classification. the guy allways plenty older then the female. many of the girls have been given to the groom at an age of 12. some have been traded like products proper at their beginning. they may be offered and delivered back every time. If the groom have been given detrimental or ought to no longer be king, the treaty lost its legality and the youngster develop into on the industry back. a number of them have been allied to 5-6 adult men, until eventually they have been given sufficiently previous to be married truly.Thats a certainty. everywhere. every time. Any way of existence and any people did it. there is not any longer something incorrect contained in the certainty. because of the fact it truly is proofed by potential of previous records.

In the Christian religion you are only a child until the age of 3 - then you are a full-fledged adult and can get married.

Most other religions have no statement of age for marriagability and the kids can be married off at birth.

In reality, even here in the US the marriage age used to be SIX until only a short while ago, and worldwide the marriage age varies from 7 to 13 on the low end.

In the past, when you reached 13, if you were a boy you had to be in a trade - or be rich - or you were sold into slavery. And for women, if you were 14 you were considered to be UNMARRIABLE and were usually sold off to the highest bidder for manual labor. If you managed to stay home until 16, you were usually given away for free to some disease ridden old man that just lost his wife to comfort him in his old age (late 30s to early 40s - much lower life expectancy back then too).

Anyway, it's all relavent to how society currently views things. The people of the past would consider our society to be immoral, indececent and decadent because we wait for so long to get married, block marriages for the young and dont enter the work force until we are usually in our late teens to early twenties.

I don't know what Answerman has been drinking BUT it has made him lose his marbles. What he writes is not correct. There is NOTHING in Christianity that states adulthood starts at 3, in fact the only stuff in the Bible in this vein are in the Jewish Old Testament & I think that the age referred to is 13 OR actually at the time girls first start to menstrate.

It's all very sexist in my view.

I bet they would object to a civil partnership between a man and a nine year old boy.

Don't kid yourself, Christians have had a long history of marring children, Mary (the Jesus mom) was only 10 years old. Also Christopher Columbus on addition voyages to America brought back children as sex slaves to Europe, and that dude really thought he was working for his "God".

m a muslim and just wana say that yes, a girl is allowed to get married from the age of nine.. but they r many rules that come under that. for example, that the girl must understand what is happening and be ready to marry the guy.. ie: not forced into the marriage.. but
the question would also have tobe asked to all those non muslim people who have sex with girls below the age of 8 and in addition, get them pregnant by the age of 11.

To be sure she's a virgin. My neighbor in Tunisia, then an old man, told me he married his wife when she was 11 - it took her two years to grow breasts. He probably wasn't more than 20. He did it because that's what he was supposed to do. Tradition. It has much changed there now though.....

hey... it's no worse than stoning a woman for being raped, because she doesn't have 4 witnesses to prove she didn't consent to the act. One has to have tolerance for different cultures after all... even one that still lives in the 7th century... YEA RIGHT!
