My husband keeps absolutely everything, from old tickets to empty cola bottles, old magazines and used pens. Our house is not that big and I am running out of space. And believe me we do have storage and boxes full with junk already!

My wife was quite the pack rat when we first got together, saving magazines and newspapers and other things. Don't get me wrong, I don't think she was extreme in this but I finally got fed up and just threw everything that I didn't think we needed in the garbage. Trust me, you MUST do the same. Just throw it all out. Yes, he might be angry to begin with but he has to choose which is more important to him, his junk or your happiness.

The two of you should make a deal that he can't buy anything new if he doesn't get rid of something he already has.
Then if you can afford it rent a small storage space and put his junk in there.
Then after 2 months every month you guys should go to the storage space and select 2 things that he has to get rid off.
He can keep maybe 2 boxes of stuff that he really can't part with but the rest has to go.....he'll soon get tired of paying the rental fee for the storage space and that'll be an incentive. LOL

Oh my grandfather was this way! He had everything from movie stubs to old magazines in bags all over the basement and he had a TV room to himself with one good TV and 4 broken ones that he used as stands!
My grandmother politley got him a ticket to go on a cruise with some of his buddies. And had all the grandkids come over and help her throw stuff out!
When he came home he was furious! But what could he do? The trash man had came and went 3 days earlier and the house looked beautiful.

Watch the show Clean sweep with him. They take a look at everything and save the most important and personal items. The rest they sell, donate, or trash. you will feel a true sense of freedom when you finish. Don't try and do it all at once. Just one part of a room at a time and keep on going.

look on eBay some of the old magazines and tickets and cola bottles might be worth something to a collector...just start listing the stuff sell it and put money in bank and surprise hubby with a romantic getaway...

Trash It. Or Tell Him To Come And Get It. Or It Does Out With The Garbge. On Garbge Day.

Rent a storage space for just one month, put his things in it, then tell him if he wants to keep his junk, he'll have to pay the storage fee... maybe it'll make him see just how much his junk is really worth (or not worth) to him.

Hi!
I'm in the same predicament! My back yard has NO FOLIAGE whatsoever, every morning I have to look out of my back yard to a SEA of carand cycle parts, collections, etc.
The City already got on us before and this problem HE has makes it a problem for me IN THE WORST way!
Some guys are just plain "PACK RATS', but, I suppose "we" gals ccan be just as bad---------NO OFFENSE to ya guys out there!!!!
I think we learn "junk collecting" from OUR relatives, after all we kinda learn to "pattern" what they do!"
Like I awlays say, things are sure EASY to accumulate, but HARD to part with!!! NO?

If it has no value and hasn't been used in the last year pitch it. He may not notice if you get rid of it a few pieces at a time and when he does tell him youve been doing it for awhile and siice he didn't notice it obviously wasn't that important.

go through each box with him, list the contents on the outside and then reseal and date them, if 6 months go by and the box has not been opened, toss it in the dump or donate it to goodwill if it has value. if the box has been opened, then update the contents and reseal and redate .. within a year, you will have removed the clutter.
