It is 5.30 pm on a Saturday afternoon, I have just answered the phone whilst trying to cook the tea, a long silence then some guys voice asking for me, instantly knowing what this call was I asked what he wanted me for, his reply was I'm going to ask you a few questions, I told him he wasn't uless he wanted to pay my line rental, he asked why he should pay it, I told him if he insists on invading my privacy on a Saturday teatime, then if he pays the line rental he can ring me anytime he wants. Does this get up anybody elses nose?

tell me about it i cant bloody stand them. it makes my blood boil. like were not busy enough as it is. and if they don't want to sell something they try and tell you how they can save you money? idiots.
i had one the other day who told me i had won a mobile phone. he said all i had to do was pay £20 a month for 12 months. so how had i won it exactly. i can walk in to any mobile phone shop and get a 'free' phone if i pay £20 a month. they do my head in.
ime glad someone else feels the same.

If these people are selling home improvements I always tell them I'm a tenant - tenants don't qualify for any of their offers so they take you off their phone list. If it's for mobile phones, etc., I speak to them in Welsh and they just hang up. If they ever got a Welsh speaker on to speak to me, I would switch to German, then French, etc. The ones that really wind me up are the ones that want you to set up a direct debit for a charity. I make a point of regularly giving to charities, but not the ones that employ people to phone you at home or hassle you on the streets. I always explain to them that I donate to a lot of charities and make a point of doing voluntary work in the community, I ask if they are volunteering or being paid (it's always paid) and then tell them that I will make a point of not donating to this charity in the future. It may sound harsh, but I'm on a low income and earn less than these people - I don't expect the money I donate to help children in third world countries to be used to pay the wage of someone who is already better off than I am. Charity has become big business and I'm finding the best way to be charitable is to do stuff for people in my own community - that's real charity these days.

I had an awful call last night where the caller took control over my telephone line and I was unable to cut off to free my line up.
This morning I registered with: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ which is a legal scheme and these calls should cease after 28 days of registering.

Whenever I get calls like that I do things to annoy them. I say hello a bunch of times. Or I will ask them a bunch of questions like who they want to talk to, where are they, have they ever been abducted by aliens, when the last time they cut their toe nails, what color is their car, what type of laundry soap do they use....and so on. They usually get so irritated that they hang up.
Sometimes when I know it's just a cold caller I will answer the phone with a scream then start singing some weird song.
Then when they hang up I laught at them because I just pissed them off.

Yeah, sure!

Look up the telephone preference service on the net, then register your number with them. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times in a couple of months, but the calls will eventually stop.

I agree totally it is really anoying but generally the person on the other end of the phone is just trying to make a crust. It's the system that's screwed up...We should take it to the "captains of Industry" and ask them what the HELL is going on? As for the calls, I politely deline and ask them not to ring me anymore.

Have a look at this

Yeah for a while i continuously got calls on a sunday morning at 5am from someone in India enquiring about my mobile phone plan!!!! 5 in the morning??! Come on! I turned the volume down on my phone and descovered i had 17 missed calls when i woke up. It's harrassment. My dad keeps a whistle by the phone for calls like this and he hasn't been bothered by them for a wee while now! Lol

That's why we have caller ID on our phone, we can see who it is and if we don't recognize the caller, we don't answer, let them go to voice mail & leave a message. A solicitor will never leave a message, they want to speak to a live person to harass.

I don't know if the Do Not Call Registry is in effect where you live, but you can take yourself off the list of telemarketers for at least 5 years.

No. Everyone has to try and earn a living. he's just doing the job he's been unlucky enough to land.
I always interrupt them in their shpeal and say, I appreciate what they are doing but I'm not interested. If they don't get it at that point, I say, "I'm going to hang up now," and I hang up. Not that hard really and I was polite and cool.
Takes all of about 15 - 20 seconds of my time.

Had a call a couple weeks ago..I was nice and told the guy I was not interested and to take me off their calling list and I was hanging up now..he was still rambling when i hung up on him....musta been desperate! I know they are trying to make a living too but come on...some of them are seriously quite rude!
