I understand 1.8 starter is a higher price than 2.2

The 1.8 is for the 1.8 liter engine. The 2.2 is for the 2.2 liter engine. Regardless of cost, you need to get the right starter for the engine in your car.

I see a difference in the part numbers and price. I'm sure the 2.2 starter has more torque.

Other than price - there may be size issues and wiring issues and where the solenoid attaches to the flywheel gear. Buy the correct part as other posters have told you and avoid future grief.
