Start by testing the usb port to ensure it works with another device. If not try the other ports.

Then take a look in Control Panel---System---Device Manager tab. There should not be any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs. If there is a yellow exclamation mark then right click it's line and choose update driver and follow the directions. You may need to download the driver from the manufacturer's web site. If there's a red X, simply rick click the line and choose enable.

If you're still unsuccessful you may need to do complex troubleshooting on your computer. It could be hardware or software failure and to distinguish between the two without reformatting is REALLY complicated.

If I needed to keep the disk intact to troubleshoot it, I would start by temporarily replacing it with another one onto which I'd install Windows ME from scratch.

If the port works after a windows installation then we know the problem is software related, if not we know it is hardware related.

I'm more concerned about your operating system than your computer. Windows ME was a joke when it was released, and it never got a foothold because it really was a POS. There's a LOT of things that it didn't do well, and you may be running into one of those problems.

You may have better luck if you try upgrading to Windows 2000. I wouldn't recommend XP, unless you're interested in upgrading your machine.

it should recognize your flash drive...plug it in, go to "my computer" and the drive should appear there (if it didn't pop up automatically)...if it's not there, are you sure the USB port is not damaged?
