Ashley:
I don't believe there is a pat answer to your question. Self-confidence is something that comes with time. There are some good suggestions listed here among your responses. However, I have a combined suggestion for you to try. In order to FEEL that you are confident of yourself, realize that you may not be able to do all the things you see or know that others do. You ARE special. You have talent in some area. You are good at something. Maybe you just haven't found out what, yet. But once you realize your individuality, then believe in your individuality. The mirror is a good device for seeing yourself as others might see you. Look at yourself, well. See you in the reflection looking back and remember that you are a person with every right to live; same as the next person. Believe in you. I survived for more than 50 years before I began to believe in myself. I had allowed others to convince me I would amount to nothing and that I had no personal worth. It wasn't true. It never was true. Don't let anyone ever try to convince you it is. BELIEVE IN YOU, Ashley. God does.

Self confidence is hard to gain and it takes time, i used to be really shy and couldnt talk to anyone but i made friends that were good to hang around with and i kept positive and now i can talk to pretty much anybody. It all depends on your environment and how you feel about yourself. i know it sounds lame but try telling yourself that you look good in the mirror and if you dont believe it straight away keep working on it untill you do. oh and developing an eating disorder is not the way to gain self confidence in fact the complete opposite depriving your body of nutritition can cause many mental disorders including different types of depression which is usually acompanied by paranoia which also fuels self conciousness. Im speaking from years of experience. i hope i helped

I had the same problem. You just gotta the reason why you were confident. Maybe try some new styles, do your makeup everyday, do your hair. Then when you go to step out the door, look in the mirror and tell yourself EVERYDAY that you are beautiful. Eventually that feeling of self hate will disappear.

Keep yourself busy. As you do more and develop more skills and talents (your age is a great age to play sports, try art, learn to play music...), you will gain self-confidence. Easier said than done, but try to remember that nobody will care in 20 years if you tried something and failed. Now is the time to try out new interests.

for some reason, your self esteem depends on your dad. you have to learn how to love yourself the way you are. if others arent satisfied, then thats their problem.
