I think you heard him wrong. He was stating that "scientific illiteracy" is causing global warming.
That is, the lack of scientific education in America is furthering the progress of global warming because many American's do not have the scientific background to understand the process. This leads to indifference.

I cannot see the connection between global warming and illiteracy. If children playing more outdoors and do not read, it has nothing to do with global warming but with proper supervision.
Which then in turn has something to do with womens lib and the economy and the ME society who prefer personal material things over family duties.

Yes. Because the people responsible for fudging the reports on global warming are the same people who secretly support the dumbing down of America

He said that because he is an idiot.
Television, moronic comedians, NASCAR, professional wrestling, and many other things, including Al Gore and the Clintons, are contributing to the de-evolution or 'dumbing down' of America and the human race.
This, of course, proves Darwin was WRONG!! If he were correct, we would be too intelligent to allow this crap to control our lives.

I guess I will have to see the movie. I doubt that is what he said though.
Illiteracy is caused by other factors, such as not funding the education system, and parents not supporting the education of their children.

I saw the movie too, and I don't remember any such statement.
Is it possible that you want to disagree with him so much that you are somehow distorting his statements?

Perhaps you might watch it again.
You might hear it differently the second time.
What we see & hear has a great deal to do with what we already think & with what we expect.
