I have the online adapter on the playstation 2. I have DSL. Do you just connect the phone line to PS2? Do you have to pay money to do it? Do people actually use headsets to play that way?

1.) This is an old PS2, the bigger kind with an electronic (not fliptop) dvd drive, correct?
2.) You have to removed the small "drive bay" covering in the back, insert the online adapter, and tighten the 2 screws to lock it in place.
3.) Then you insert the cable from your DSL. If you have a network configuration disc you'll need it. Otherwise you will have to set it up from a game.
4.) Money? Nope that's only for xbox. PS2 online play is free, but it's only run by the manufacturer of games (xbox live is run by microsoft, ratchet and clank online is run by Insomniac games. So there is no "friends list" or cross game interfaces)
5.) Do they use headsets? Not sure. I've only played socom and Ratchet and clank 3 online, both times i haven't heard a single voice. I personally don't think they do, but it might be that you have to use the headset to hear them. Still, 30 dollars is a big commitment for something that might not come in handy at all.

I have the headset and a few other people that I play against have them as well.
I recommend them because it's great to speak your mind as your playing =)
