its columbus day on monday. does everyone get time off from work and school?

Of course, some work on Mondays otherwise all businesses would be closed even Fast Food Places, Wallmart, Safeway and the like. Unfortunately, the only ones off are students, government workers, and teachers.

Of course schools are off, what made you think others were off.
they have not declared this a holiday of that type.

Not Me. Why my office doesn't give us off, I'll never know. Their so damn cheap with their vacation time.
