My car is a 2004 Grand Prix GT2 3.8L 41000 miles
Whenever I accelerate My engine makes a whining sound, and it keeps getting louder until it shifts, then it starts over, just getting louder again until it shifts again. What could be causing this?

Thanks in advance,
Cameron

It could be the transaxle, but probably isn't. More likely it is the power steering pump (looking for fluid) or the alternator (getting ready to die).

Check your transmission fluid (the red stick) when it is warm, and after the car has been sitting for about five minutes (engine off) and your power steering reservoir (should be on the right side of the engine compartment and have a cap about an inch and a quarter in diameter.

If that isn't it, you can remove your serpentine belt and try your acceleration. If the whine is there, it may just be your transaxle. It could also be interfence in your audio system from the insulation on you ignition system wearing. Try it with your radio off. (Pretty unlikely, but a whine is pretty ambiguous - easy to check). IF it comes back when you put your serpentine belt back on, you're going to be the proud owner of a new alternator soon. You can also check the output of your alternator with a voltmeter. Should be about 13.8 volts. If less than 12, you're done. Buy a new one, and save yourself some grief this winter.

One last possibility is the battery is dying and your alternator is really loaded all the time. Check the voltage on your batter too. Cheaper than an alternator, and that load will kill your alternator after a while.

JC would desire to be ideal correct to the guidance fluid, or it is your alternator below a intense load call for. whilst it a protracted time the alternator wears down the touch brushes that make the present. This does reason a whining sound, tremendously whilst it jumps into the intense amperage output.

it is not in the engine change the fluid and filter in the transmission it sounds like it is in the motor cause the tranny is so close to the motor the motor winds out more cause it is taking longer to shift the filter is dirty and not letting the fluid flow right

Sounds like it could be the transmission.
