I pulled into a parking spot and went to straighten up and my car would not reverse. My last tuneup revealed my transmission fluid was dark. Do I need more fluid?

Your transmission is shot. Time to start calling around to make an appointment to get it repaired/replaced.

i own a repair shop, and if the fluid was real dark in it ,,it means the transmission needs a lot of work done on it,whats happening to it is the bands and clutches in it are going bad this is where the dark color comes from in the fluid, and its going to probably need rebuilt pretty soon once they start going out, they cant be saved, you need to take it and have a real good transmission mechanic look at it and drive it,and see what they say about it,,id say from what you described its just about gone,,good luck with it i hope this help,s.

It can be as simple as a screw is loose. the link that connects the shifter to the transmission may have fallen off or the adjustment screw is loose and the link is out of alignment. The dark fluid will not make your car not go in reverse but you will notice bad shifting while driving

It a sign your tranny is in need of service..But check your transmission fluid level and fill if needed, and all transmission have an adjustment linkage.Yours might need to be adjusted?

If it still goes forward OK, it is probably not the fluid, although this should not be dark.

It sounds more likely to be the selector mechanism.

If you add more detail, such as the make, model and year of the car, and precise details of what happened, you may receive more specific responses.

Best of luck - I hope it is not too expensive!!
