Hey Tara,

Weaving is the same principle in whatever medium you are working, but the techniques and tools will differ. So, your reference to "same side" is not clear, a little ambiguous. Questions like this are difficult to write, so, I will try 2 thoughts.

If the material you are weaving has two different sides to it, such as a Bamboo, rough and smooth - then staying on the same side will give it a certain look. If you want to mix it up, you can do it random, or in a pattern of your choice. One up, one down, or one up 2 down, etc.

If by 'same side' you mean where you sit, or relative to the piece you are creating, I think what ever works for you is best. A group in the particular medium you are using could help with that too. Here are a few weaving sites, that may help.
