You know the saying - "A few bad apples spoil the batch" - that is why. The few crooks give all the good lawyers a bad name.

Don't take it personally. You are in it for the right reasons, to make a difference and help people. I know you will be a great lawyer! Best of luck to you. ;-)

Our family has more than a few attorneys and one retired Supreme Court Judge and I can tell you that we've had this discussion more than a few times. My brother is a prosecuting attorney who tried private practice just once and the thing that bothered him so much about private practice is that everyone, innocent or guilty, have the same rights to representation even if the attorney has privileged information regarding guilt. You have to go to the point of misrepresenting (lying) about this person and his/her value as a person under those conditions. He went back to prosecuting so that he could 'put away the bad guys' and be able to live with himself and sleep nights for doing the right thing.

Ironically when my husband and I were subjected to a crime (we were the victims), both the police officer and the DA said the same thing to us, "We have to be sure that the innocent are protected". My response "I think you've forgotten who the innocent really are here". The look on their faces was priceless; if a light bulb over the top of their heads could have gone on, this would have been the moment.

Folks like Johnny Cochran.

99.99% of all politicians are lawyers.

Divorce courts.

Ambulance chasers.

Of course, not all lawyers fall into the above catagories. There are plenty of lawyers out there fighting for the rights of children and many other voiceless types, and these are almost always the broke ones....it's unfortunate buy true.

HOWEVER, the MAIN reason? It's because lawyers aren't paid to fight for the absolute truth, they are paid to fight for the rights of whomever is paying them, and to make certain that the outcome is the best possible situation for their client.

I'm a car salesman, so I understand about the stereotypes. There are plenty of good lawyers out there that are a credit to the profession, however, they rarely get any press.

Personal Injury lawyers are the crooks because they usually get 40% of an award. His is whether or not they do anything for you.
You have a nice idea, but you'll probably wind up becoming a Public Defender because you won't make any money on your own trying to help the underdog.

Many lawyers go into the profession with good intentions. But they quickly become frustrated with the antiquity of the system, and more so with the injustice in the system.

Then, some lawyers start to manipulate the system for personal reward.

Thus, society deems all lawyers as crooks.

Just as society see teachers as, "Can't do, teach."

Good luck....

An add I cut out that says "A good lawyer turns the tables in your favor" and has a Zebra chasing a lion. Its funny when a Zebra chases a Lion, its not funny when a child molester goes free and walks the streets.

Only in America.

75% of the worlds lawyers are in America.
In America you don't have any set rules to sue anyone.
(how much money you can get out of someone.)
Lawyers make you look like the bad guy, even if your not.
I hope you morals stay, to help the underdog.

It's just like anything else. Word of mouth and reputation. If you build a good reputation via word of mouth people will then take you for a good lawyer. Unfortunatley the media has exploited so many people that it's hard to know who is good vs. bad these days. Do good by others and your reputation will carry you into success.

Lawyer's aren't crooks.

People who say that should sit at the desk of the legal secretary whom the lawyer pays while he/she is doing the work.
Being a lawyer or a secretary is hard work! Someone came in and called my lawyer a crook and I straight up told him that I don't like the way he is talking and would he please leave. IT'S AN INSULT TO MY CAREER!

THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD I WORK SO THAT THEY CAN KEEP THEIR KIDS OR THEIR LICENCE OR WHATEVER! It pisses me off.
