I have already received an written offer letter and all forms and a start date has been established for my new job.
When I recently handed my written and oral 2 weeks notice to my current employer I was consise and explained briefly that my new job is more suitable for what I would like to go to school for down the road. However, I have many great friends here and have let it slip to a couple where I will be working. Is this ok?

Do I have to worry about my current boss finding out & trying to sabotage my new job offer? My boss is very moody leading us to have had a pretty rocky relationship in the past few months, and many others in my grp seem to have a prob w/ the way our boss behaves twds us and others. Do people generally let their co-wokers/boss know who their new employer is(if they have an offer letter in hand)?

That would be extremely unlikely, especially since you have already received the job offer. I have never heard of that happening. Don't worry. Your boss would have to have some serious psychological problems to do that.

If they ask, I would have no problem telling them. Switching jobs is as common as a full moon. Just be nice and explain it is nothing personal.

I would normally expect people to be reasonably open about where they are going and if the reasons are not contentious about why (ie if they are taking a different career direction, need to experience new skills or a different business culture, if it's a very negative reason best to just say "time for a change" and leave it at that)
it does depend on the relationship with co-workers - do you ever want to hear from any of them again, will you need a reference from one or more of them in the future.
I've regretted losing touch with some people along the way, only realising that they were friends as well as colleagues after the fact.

Absolutely not!!! Some people think they have "friends" in the workplace. When it comes down to the nub--its all about them and what can be said and down to better their opportunity. If you and boss have been rocky then its best to keep all things quiet and when asked just let them know that you have found another (not a better;because then they'll think your better than them) opportunity that is more suitable for you "niche" schedule, whatever...dont' come out with it. Because people know people, networks get around and some people are unethical and defame the other person because they may feel that you left them "hanging" with your workload ( sometimes(pay back is a %$&*#) even though wrong

My guess is that you dont have to worry.

The important thing is that you have written confirmation from the new job. That means that they want to employ you.
I doubt the old boss will be able to sabatage this.

Generally, I have told my old bosses where I am going; but that was when I know the bosses have been nice people.
But I havent always, when i move to a competitor, I havent in the past.

Generally, your old boss will need to know where you're going because few employers take people on without a reference.

It is none of his business. Once you submitted written notice, you are gone. In general I recommend people to make the notice letter as neutral as possible, with no information of the new job or the reasons why you are leaving.

Let the coworkers you like know & do not sweat your old boss, you already have the new job & it is illegal for him to intefer ( if you are in the US, I don't know about other countries ). Anyway, he would appear petty and bitter to the new company if he did try anything.

I wouldnt worry about your current boss finding out where you are going. He cant stop you now anyway. Its really up to you if you want to tell everyone.
