If you like having gross things in your house, why not!
You should talk to massage therapists in your area. They do ear candling and remove big chunks of ear wax from people's ears. I bet they'd save it for you and let you have it... which is also gross.

I think it's just easier to stick the wicks directly into the ear.

I dont think it would stand up to the heat anyways. It would burn too easily plus..... that would be gross.
