Well it is going to be cold but that is obvious and with snow. January and December are the coldest months in Iceland with an average low of 27 (-3).It is an amazing place to go and I might see you there in December.

I was in Iceland for a few days between Christmas and New Year last year. The temperature in Reykjavik didn't drop really drop much below freezing, maybe a couple of degree below. The rural areas dropped down to about -5C or -6C when there was no wind or sleet. When there was wind and sleet (which only really lasted for a few minutes at a time), the temperature felt as if it dropped a few degrees further. To be honest, the temperature was not really any worse than you get in parts of the UK - only the sleet stung a lot worse than it does in the UK as it seemed more intense so cover yourself properly.
