You have to really, really want to. Don't do it for anyone else's benefit.. do it for YOU. Seek professional help cos you might think you can go it alone, but if you drink to excess you will have physical problems to deal with once you stop. Your GP is a good starting point, and A.A has proven to work for a lot of people trying to quit. You'll need emotional and physical support and sometimes it is much easier to accept this from a stranger who has gone through the process you're about to do yourself. Have faith in yourself and give yourself huge credit for making the decision to stop drinking. I think you're incredibly brave and I wish you so much Luck. Go for it!! xo

Alcohol Anonymous may help you.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.

Well, for one, God CONDEMNS it! If that is not enough to make you take this problem seriously and ask him to help you stop, then nothing else will.

Proverbs 20:1 (KJV)

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

This is the clearest verse, but there are others-email for details.

You can do it,but you really have to want to.You can seek help by attending AA meetings. Also its good to have a friend who is a non drinker, one that can give you support! And if all your friends are drinkers I'm sure some of us out here can help. Just ask!
