Andy, It's just a saying that means you have no excuse for whatever you've done or there is no defense you can call upon to explain your actions or inaction. It's possible but difficult to stand up on one leg, you'd have to have excellent balance. How do you stand up without ANY legs? So you see, he's stating that your situation is hopeless as you "haven't got a leg to stand on."

It's An Old Pirate saying from days of Youre!
Me Hearties!

Amputation was used widely to treat Gangrene during the 17-1800's as they could not medicate Leg Injuries!
Hence the expression 'NO Leg to Stand On!'

okay.......

people stand on their legs. with no legs there can be no standing. hence when someone(in this case 'you') dont have legs he(or 'you') can not stand or in other words he has no leg (which is used)to stand on
