I've got a little over 60 credits, and am considering transferring to a private school which has a better college of education than the one at my current public school. Are there many difficulties transferring credits from a public school to a private school? What are some benefits/disadvantages to going to a private university? What are some financial aid options I have to help pay for my private school tuition (I don't receive government grants or funding at my current college)? Thanks so much!

I would imagine that most of your credits would transer pretty easily, though you will never know for sure if you don't contact the school itself. I actually went to a private college (in education!) and it was great! The class sizes were small (about 8-15 studnets). The professors actually got to know you as a person, which helped when it came time for letters of recommendation. It was a great experience...most provate colleges also have less of the party/sorority/fraturnity crap happening. Because private schools tend to cost more (mine was 4x the amount of a state school), then also tend to be very generous with their financial aid...I didn't have much of a problem getting it at all! Good luck!

I am interested to know why you want to transfer.

If your majoring in Education, you may want to consider the Teachers College at Columbia.

However, I would stay at a public university because that is where your college professors live in the real world.

Additionally, if you plan to teach in a public school upon graduation, you will want to be prepared for the inner-city students~ a state college or university will give you more access to that type of student in your practicum courses.

First get an unofficial copy of your transcripts and take them to the school of your choice to meet with an advisor to look over what credits will be accepted do this before you pay the fee to have it sent as official to the school of your choice.

My hunch is not all of your credits will be honored. I hope I am wrong for your sake. Call up counselors at the schools you are interested in attending to get the lowdown.

All your credits should transfer pretty good along with everything else.

Don't bother choosing schools because it's the students who create the reputation. it is them who makes schools look better.

So, if you're dumb and you wanted to be as such, not even the best school can change you.
