There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......
(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.

Hm! Based on what I learned in my psychology and health classes, people fall in love for two different reasons:
1. A Prison's Physical Appearance--We all have a visual description,or idea, on how we would want our 'true love' to look like, for say. Preferably, 90% of everyone in the world (depending on ethnic background and ?gender?) have the same description. That would explain why many of us are in love with celebrities like that Matthew McConaughey guy and Usher (Pam Anderson is my choice). A person's physical appearance is always disguised or thought of as love at first sight when really it is THIS or just lust.
2. Similar Interests or 'What We Have In Common'--For some of the people who aren't fooled into the 'love at first sight' thing and actually try to know about the people they are interested in would choose someone that shares the same interests as they do. The reason is being that couples who can relate with each other are more likely to have a much longer relationship than those that don't. This kind of love comes from knowing the person well enough to fall love with them in every aspect instead of just looks.
And to simplify your second question (if you are unaware that I just did); true love is reason number 2 and love is reason number1.

Well, love hurts and everybody had to expiriance some pain in his life, thats why ppl fall in love. An the difference betwen true and just love is that true love hurts more....Love is like a cat scratch and true love is like someone dropped a building on you...

People fall in love not because they want to or need to it just happens. True love is a bit over rated (I say this at the mo) but when you find someone you will just know.
