I love both, but my avatar says where my allegiance lies.
That said, Star Wars mixes the future with a fantasy religious mythic past, it speaks to a personal experience of the transition from childhood to adulthood. Luke grows up and accepts not only his destiny, but learns of sacrifice (when Ben dies) and redemption (Darth Vader has some good in him afterall).
Lord of the Rings is epic is scope, mythic in the telling, but is less a story of one person's growth and more the clash of cultural ideals. More importantly, NO ONE DIES. At least none of the central characters. Boromir does not count, he was always an outsider and not in Frodo's heart.
There is more terror and fear and hopelessness in LotR, which makes the ultimate victory seem greater on a social level, but with Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf on Frodo's side, how could it end any other way.
Luke had to trust in himself as his friends were far less powerful by comparison.
Don't get me wrong, I loved both, but I have a preference.
BTW Jar Jar was NOT Gollum! Gollum was untrustworthy, unredeemable but necessary to the success of the quest.
JarJar was far less necessary, and was specifically comic relief. His analogue would be Pippen.
anyway, that is the short version!

a million. famous guy or woman Wars - i will factor out in the present day, that of all 5 it truly is the only one that replaced right into a cinematic success that did no longer have a literary success as a precursor (i assume Narnia replaced right into a literary success?). i'm able to additionally argue that the success of the 1st famous guy or woman Wars action picture is a reason the specific outcomes interior the present action picture marketplace exist to produce the different 4 on the checklist. 2. LOTR - replaced into well timed to determine the specific outcomes of the time have been able to translating this tale to action picture. 3/4. HP and Narnia - i would be truthful and admit i do no longer shop on with HP lots in any respect. i've got seen some video clips and that i've got study not one of the books. I do exactly no longer see the charm. Narnia has been finished in diverse diverse variations. i've got self belief it quite is a competent tale, yet for me the CGI does not make all of it that much extra suitable. 5. Twilight - i've got in basic terms seen the flicks and been instructed it quite is a classic case of "the e book replaced into much extra suitable than the action picture". They weren't terrible video clips, and that i think of many of the detest for them comes from people who watched them that had no business enterprise going to the theater. They have been marketed as a blockbuster, so i do no longer blame each and every of the those that have been given sucked in. they actually could have been marketed extra as "in case you enjoyed the books, come see the action picture, it will do", yet what form of merchandising and marketing attitude could that be?

Original 3 Star Wars - excellent!!!!
Later 3 - Overlong, Over complicated & Ewan McGregor cr@p!!!!
Lord of the Rings - Superb.
Except for the bit where Froddo finally got to the volcano - too long crawling, falling, crawling, fainting. I just wanted him to get a move on!!!

well if I had to watch an entire Trilogy back to back, I think it would have to be the original Star Wars, the reason behind this?
well, watching Star Wars would take around 6.5 hours to watch, but Lords of the Rings would be a bum numbing 9-10 hours.

They both have exelent music (both actually got an osscar for thier music) but I definatly prefer john williams to howard shore

Has to be Lord of the Rings - the book is brilliant - a lot of fantasy epics are based on lord of the rings - the cinematic are superb.
Star was is very dated, even the three prequels were a let down
