I think that was made up by a man just needing some extra nookie - not by a 2 week over due woman who can harly walk cos her pelvis feels like it's splitting in two!

Yes - I do know there is a chemical in sperm and it's all proven, but it's just one of the things that was furthest from my mind!!

No ramonatin.. - I am not being pressured. In fact, I am not even pregnant and no intentions of any more. Just something I read in another answer and made me think back to the midwives offering to put up a do not disturb sign on the room door for me.....

i guess it was made up by the same person who said walking and riding down a bumpy road would make you go into labor too. lol! who knows, but if i ever do become overdue, i'll definently try those things! i'm 33 weeks right now and already miserable so i can imagine what i would feel like being past due!

Some doctors say that the levels of the hormone are so low from sperm and having sex that they won't induce anything, (it's one of those myths like eating spicy foods etc.) but they tell you to have fun trying anyway.

I personally didn't try it, but remember you're about to have a little person in your house that takes up all your time... and sometimes after the birth (especially if you're breastfeeding) your interest in sex may disappear for awhile. With that in mind, a last romp in the hay isn't such a bad idea!!

I know!

Furthest from my mind too ...

I don't mean to be rude but maybe try some positions that don't hurt too much and make him go slow.

The thing is you have to have heaps of sperm at the cervix sitting there so you have to have sex and lie with your pelvis raised.

Mmmmm very comfortable isn't it.

I didn't enjoy it enough to keep at it

Its all nonsense anyway! Prostaglandin the hormone that can induce labour is present in sperm but you would need about 5 litres of sperm to start your labour (not a very nice thought!)

NO, sex is not a good idea to induce labor. In fact, doctors do not want pregnant woman to engage in sex the last six weeks!

I agree with you that the idea most probably came from some testosterone driven male....

I would suggest you leave it to your doctor whether to induce medically or not.

JUST SAY NO!!

I don't believe it, babies come when they're ready, otherwise instead of inducing you with horrible drugs that give you more pain than actual labour, they would suggest having sex or make the pessaries out of synthetic sperm.

it's not disgusting... many people (and i'm speaking from experience) have a full sex life right up to the day baby is born.
it is said that there is a reaction to the sperm that brings on labour, when a woman orgasms, her uterus as well as vagina contract and sometimes this can bring on labour.

My husband and I did right up to my due date and after. It didn't induce anything.

It was a nice 20-block walk that finally encouraged the little bugger to come out.

I would rather have my cervix scraped!!!! (which I did-twice) My doctor actually told my husband-"If you want the baby to come, you should have sex". My response- "You can have sex as much as you want--just not with me!" NO WAY-NO HOW!! I was two weeks late with all of my kids, and would have stayed that way for another 3 years if I had to!
