I broke my neck while sitting on a chair that was broken (I didn't know, my friend did) and her dog jumped on me & knocked me & the chair over. Chair had loose bolts that my friend knew about & forgot to tighten. I broke my neck & my neurologist says I'll have to have surgery. I had two previous fusions on my neck from a soccer injury 6 years ago and the broken neck messed up that surgery & caused a disk bulge at the site of the fracture (C2). I have films proving that there was no fracture or bulge a few months before this injury (from a follow up MRI on surgeries). I am a bus. owner & haven't been able to work for more than 4 months. My medical bills are $30K so far & the surgery will run about 30K+. I have health ins.. I 've been treated for depression since this happened (1st time ever). My friend has homeowners ins. for 300K & I want to try to settle this myself. Does anyone have any idea about what would be a reasonable settlement amount w/no atty? I'm not paralyzed. Any advice?

Get an attorney. You can't settle this on your own. The insurance company will most likely not give you the $300,000.00. An stty is trained to deal with these type of things. When you deal with the insurance company, you have to do a lot of things, demand packages...etc. There is no set value on a broken neck, circumstances vary.

I dont know how one returns to work with a broken neck.?? Talk to your friend and explain that you need to file against her homeowners. I think that she would have offered that to you. Im not sure on an amount you may have to contact an attorney on this one it would be in your best interest.
