what was his secrets?

It's not even close. Bill Russell was the greatest shot blocker, and defender and some say player. Mark Eaton? Wow. Poor knowledge as well.

Shot blocking is almost an art form. There are no secrets otherwise everyone would be a good shot blocker. Mr. Russell said he just had great instinct and the ability to jump straight up and lightly block the ball so it would go back to him. He used to say what good does it do to block a shot and send it into the crowd because you've just given the ball back to the other team. He was also a great jumper and rarely was fooled with jump fakes. He was amazing.

In Mr. Russells day they didn't even keep the stats like they do now, or else he would be double what the top shot blocker is today; and that's not an exageration.

It's just like Oscar Robertson avg. a triple double for 2 years when if you get one every few weeks in today's game it's a big deal. Anyways, any knowledgable fan, player, or coach, regards him as the greatest shot blocker. Many games he had double figure blocks, something that is rarely seen today.

Ben Wallace couldnt' tie Mr. Russells shoes.

Anyone can go get a definition or go look up stats on the internet but that doesnt' take much knowledge; but it isn't even close; the Great Bill Russell is the greatest shot blocker of all time.

yup i agree i would go with bill russell. they didnt even keep the stat back then and he was and is probably the greatest defenensive player of all time. yeah i bet bill russell has at least 4,000 blocks in his career. no offense to mark eaton. but i dont think he is in the hall of fame or the nba 50 greatest players. when i was growing up in the 80's and 90's it was hakeem olajuwon. today its probably ben wallace. but i give the nod to bill russell as the greatest of all time. bill russell. is 6'9. not 7'3.
