I've skated in competition..so here are my tips:

1. Bend your knees and let your feet do the skating. LOOK ahead of where you are going!! Your head looking down at your feet causes falls.

2. When you fall aim for your butt. Failing that, get up by putting one knee on the ice and using the other leg to get up. We all fall, get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Michelle Kwan never fell she'd have a Olympic gold medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Let go of the wall as soon as possible, but put your arms out at your sides. It will stabilize you and give you confidence.

Stay close to the wall. But for my first experience i did farely well and what's so weird is that i can ice skate but can't roller blade, so look at it in that format, your just roller blading.

~Never put your hands in your pockets.
~Lean a little forward so incase you fall it's not on your back.
~Start out slow and then progress faster you might want something to hold on to.
