This poor country is not that poor, at all. Believe me, I live here. So let me identify some majour problems or obstacles for the world cup:

1) Public Transport - South Africa does not have the sufficient public transport resources to facilitate upper-class citizens from first world countries who will be visiting for the soccer. I have no idea how they would get to the stadia without tubes/trains or clean buses. But what the hell do I care.

2) So there is the crime. I wasn't ever robbed or witnessed a crime scene, so I just think the person who writes the crime stats for South Africa is drunk everytime he has to report on it.

3) This trumpet stuff - South African soccer fans have the disgusting habit of blowing these ear-deafening trumpet stuff at soccer games. I however think they've banned this instrument, but if they didn't, I don't know what the people of civilized countries will think! Haha!

And that's about it. I think our country is able to pull off this event. We have a stabilizing strong economy, very stable politics, and decreasing unemployment. I think all will be good. Don't worry too much; things are getting better here, even though it might not always seem that way. Don't however think we have no problems - South Africa still has a long way to heal itself and build a new nation, but whatever.

South Africa is definitely not a poor country. They have more than enough funds to sponsor the 2010 . That`s not the problem, it`s the crime rate that bothers me. Believe me i am from South Africa.

Who said South Africa is a poor country !!! Oh they have the cash to do it and a lot of it, its just that over there the politicians and the white people are the only one that have money, the rest of the country is poor because of the abusive power of some select group of bastards.

I think the biggest obstacle is the rampant crime afflicting South Africa, from unauthorized "toll" checkpoints set up by criminals on roadways to frequent robberies, violent crime, etc.

Their is a growing movement to prevent South Africa from getting the games due in part to the governments "ignorance" towards the crime problem. More info can be found at the link below:
