Every time I insert a cartridge the screen goes white. I have to hit "reset" a million times for the game to operate properly.

try blowing it out with compressed air. Then get some electrical contact cleaner, spray a bit on the terminals and wipe with a cotton swab. This should fix your problem. don't soak it in soapy water, that's just stupid.

I'd just use a cardreader cleaner. They're individually-packaged firm cotton sheets dipped in alcohol that companies use to clean magnetic card readers. These will remove the dust and minimize corrosion.
