L=2W+3, P=78
P=2L + 2W, P= 4W+6 + 2W
P=6W + 6
78 = 4W + 6 subtract 6 from both sides
72 = 6W divide by 6
12 = W
Width is 12, Length is 27

Good luck

width of rectangle = w
length of rectangle = 2w + 3 (since it is 3 in. longer than twice width)
perimeter or rectangle is 2 x (length + width) = 78
perimeter of rectangle is 2 x (2w + 3 + w) = 78
therefore 4w + 6 + 2w = 78
which implies 6w + 6 = 78
which implies 6w = 78 - 6
which implies 6w = 72
which implies w = 72/6
therefore w = 12 in.
and length = 2w + 3 = 24 + 3 = 27 in.
