HI
First... DO not listen to spatz...... hes way off and you will kill the baby that way.

Everyone else is moslty right... Its Sat not SUN and any VETS or Rescues take call 24/7 VETS have after hours answering services or somebody taking calls...

You must have a wildlife rescue n your area..Florida has a ton of them all over...

Gatorade is a good idea... but dont over do ... Kitten nursing bottles(walmart) may allow him to feed if you can not do a syringe or medicine syringe.. the kitten nurser will have a nipple.

He may have been injured in the fall.....
I would really get on finding an animal rescue center
Yes feeding every 2-3 hours round the clock is good
Keep him warm but not too warm
A squirrels norm body temp is about 98-102F

Normally if it is not a storm that knocks a baby out of the nest its due to lack of space the babies grow... usually if it is not injured mom will come get it back.. if it is she will not

Your baby is a few weeks old I would guess... THey wean at about 75 days or so

Remember when you feed do it slowly and let the baby set the pace... Once you got it down it should take only abot 24 hours to rehydrate... feeding every 2-4 hours .

Once your baby is rehydrated switch to Esbilac .. its a Milk replacement formula for PUPPIES.

Never use human Formulas, or milk as they can kill a squirrel and most other wildlife.

You will need a nursing boittle( kitten) or a couple of syringes.. a 3cc and a 10cc... Your baby is prob old enough for the 10cc.

The basic formula should consist of 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of powder Esbilac, and 1/2 cup of whipping cream. The cream is added to fortify the formula, and add a little extra incentive to eat. An alternative small batch mixture would be 2-tsp water, 1 tsp Esbilac, and 1 tsp of whipping cream. You'll have less waste with this teaspoon method.

Be sure formula is about 100F but no warmer than 102F.. Hold the baby in your hand and let him set the pace for feeding..

Age 2-3 weeks, feed 5 times a day, start at 1 1/2 cc of formula and increase to 3 cc

Age 4-5 weeks, feed 4 times a day, start at 3 1/2 cc of formula and increase to 5 cc

Age 6-7 weeks, feed 4 times a day, start at 6 cc of formula and increase to 9 cc

At 8 weeks you can begin to ween onto solids.

ALSO NEVER FEED A COLD SQUIRREL. Get them to reg temp first. Keep them warm with warm towels in a warm area of your house.. do NOT use heating pads... water bottles can be used unde a towel but only if you know the temp is not more than 102F.

You should also keep them out of a lot of light.. direct sun for sure.

After feeding, you must make sure the infant can and will relief itself. To stimulate this process use a dampened Q-tip and gentle rub it across the genitals. It is not necessary that you get results each time, but the pattern should be established early.
If you have not been doing this is may explain why heis not drinking or feeling poorly...

Mom would normally lick the baby to stimlulate this... so you have to be mom... Use the q tip ... make sure its moist with warm water.

Now how old is your baby

Pink with no fur, umbilical cord attached is under one week old.
Body hair emerges at ten to twenty one days.
Lower incisors cut at nineteen to twenty one days.
Upper incisors cut at thirty to forty two days.
Eyes begin to open at twenty eight to thirty days.
Ears open, at twenty eight to thirty five days.
Out of the nest for the first time at thirty to forty six days.
Out of the nest alone at fifty four to fifty eight days.
Foraging for food at forty five to fifty one days.
Social skills practice at sixty days.
Can live independently at sixty eight to eighty four days.

If you decide to take this on yourself... and feel you have the time to do this and it weill be time consuming... I wish you luck..

You can trry calling local VETs for wildlife rescues,..also Fish and game department might know...

You should also keep it away from other pets or children...if it is to be released later you do not want it used to Pets or children as it will put it at risk for capture or injury later.

Hope this helps and good luck....

I've raised 7 squirrels and currently got two 5 week olds recovered from my friends dog.
I do NOT recommend you keep this baby longer then needed.

I use Propel Mixed Berry for the first 24hours giving 1-3 cc every 2 hours and stimulating them to go pee (poop usually wont come for 12hours or so). You can use the pedialyte too, fruit flavors are best (but with my first set of squirrels they didn't like the pedialyte either..and they all seem to LOVE the Propel Mixed Berry)

Just keep feeding the electrylites until you get the baby to someone that can care for it. If you need to change to formula, use the Esbilac Puppy Milk (I use liquid but many suggest the powder, but I find the powder clogs the bottles I use) but change it gradual adding a little more Esbilac each feeding (1/4, 1/3, 1/2, etc...)

I've only seen one baby squirrel and I wasn't sure what it was. I was walking from the Courthouse to my office one day when I saw this tiny pink baby laying on the ground under a pecan tree. It looked kind of like a mix between a baby mouse and a kitten, and it had no hair. It was alive so I picked it up and took it to the office with me. A co-worker took it to the vet her Mom works for, and that's how we found out it was a baby squirrel. So, I guess they stay in a nest or hole in trees until they're big enough to run around on their own.

If you put it back at the base of the tree quickly enough and stand back the mom will come and get it. They aren't as fussy as some other animals about human scent. Make sure no cats or large birds beat her to him. If she doesn't get him within an hour or two you've got a squirrel to raise without the knowledge on how to raise him and will most likely (sorry, I know you mean well) cause his death if you don't get him to a qualified person. You must be a licensed wildlife rehabilitator to raise a baby squirrel http://www.orphanedwildlifecare.com/ http://www.squirrel-rehab.org/

Call a local vet about the squirrel, or a place in your city that handles WILD animals! If you have a wild animal refuge in your city take the squirrel there and let them care for it. If you don't know if there is one, call a local vet.

They can tell you what to do. A mother won't come after a baby once it has fallen out of the nest. BE VERY careful about that squirrel. I had a baby bite me and I had to get a tetnus shot and had the squirrel died and they could not have tested it, I would have had to have take rabies shots. Try www.vetinfo.com

Like any wild animals they can carry rabies.

Good Luck

I also live in FL and nursed a baby squirrel who fell out of his nest. You are so right to hydrate him. He will drink Gatorade. He will like the sugary flavor and the electrolytes will be good for him. My vet gave me syringes and recommended I feed him puppy formula. I took him to work in a shoebox and fed him every 2 or 3 hours. He'd cry when he was hungry. He became a healthy little squirrel and a nice buddy. He used to sit on my shoulder and buzz in my ear like he was talking to me. See the photos on my 360 of Scruffy. Best of luck to you and your baby squirrel.

I found a site that said to feed it Esbilac puppy formula, and that all other types of formula will kill it in a few days to a week. Still looking for more info ...

OKAY! Here is a great site with lots of info. It says you can use Ensure at first, and then transition to the puppy formula. Please take a look, this one looks great!

Aww.. I always wanted a squirrel. They are cute and fuzzy and are my favorite animals. What part of Florida do you live in? But, I would jst keep on giving him the water, an then when he is not weak, and when he is jumpy and hyper, take him poutside, and let him go

My friend raised 2 baby squrrels. One of them unfortnately died due to a concusion from falling but the other one is still alive. She let him go when he got older. Anyway, You should probably call your vet or a nature center.

My best advice to you is to find a wildlife rescue group in your area and hand the little guy over to them. Please make sure it is not an spca branch or animal control as they will put him down. It needs to be a Wildlife Rescue group. You will lose thise little guy, and although I do realise that you are trying to help him, you are not. Do this as soon as possible to make sure this little guy can survive. Thank you!
