Many of the US networks now show their TV shows online.
e.g. NBC and LOST.

But you can only view these if you are connecting in the US.
Somehow the site detects that you are not in the US and so you can not access the shows.

IS it possible to fool these sites into thinking you are in the US - thus allowing you to watch them?

If so how?

Unfortunately you'd have to be a big hacker to get around it. The problem is that your ISP is from an outside location and they know it.

Why not get yourself a bit torrent program and download it from another source:

We are in Australia and we've already seen episode 1.

Servers can filter traffic this way because each country has a certain IP range assigned to it, and servers can be easily programmed to only accept connections from IPs in a certain range. You'll need to arrange a proxy connection with some US-based provider. The way a proxy connection works is that you connect to some computer in the US which then connects to the site that you want to look at. This is not all that hard to do, but unless you know someone in the US that is willing to set this up for you for free, it's something you have to pay for, which kind of defeats the whole goal of your enterprise here.

Below is a link to one such service provider. Their claims of privacy protection are rather overblown, but hey, they're trying to drum up business. The service you would need runs $50 a month and only allows 15GB of traffic per month.
