I still have my sweets points ration book but I don't actually remember rationing - so you're older than me or have a better memory.

Even my mum doesn't remember and I've just turned 40. I doubt you are the oldest contributor to the site - there are more pensioners on the internet than anything else. Good on them that's what I say.

Yes, I can remember going to the sweet shop with a ration book.

If I remember correctly the stamps in the book were similar to postage stamps which the shop removed when a purchase was made.

I remember that, plus I was the one at our house that mixed the new 'oleo' margarine that came in a plastic bag with the red dye, along with the milk man we had the 'ice' man, 'blackouts', scrub-boards, outside toilets, carried drinking water in buckets from the community well, farmers were still using horses to plow, we played outside from sunup to sundown and mom and dad never knew where we were, nor come looking for us.

Oh Yes - my parents used to control the sweet coupons and we had a family share out on the old man's pay day.

I remember that, I was a snotty nosed youngster in short pants, my Mum gave me 6d to go to Berry's sweet shop and treat myself. Ooooh, Gobstoppers!

oooooooooooooo I remember going to the shops with those coupons,heheh I was only a little kid tho lol, I used to have to but 5 park drive for me mum aswell. lol
