Every other year we (my family) buy and give to another family. It is a traditional thing that we do, so we will not get caught up in the "gimme, gimme" syndrome...And we are better able to concentrate on WHY we celebrate CHRISTmas....

I'm always happy with a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble, or similar place I can buy books, music, and appliances. It's still a gift, but it lets me shop exactly for what I want and I'm always satisifed.
Or a full-hour body massage. I'm always open to one of those given my long work days, etc.
Outside of that, I'd be perfectly happy if radio and TV stations would just carry on with normal programming. I get tired and sullen over so much holiday themed shows and music on all the time, I much rather would have heard on a CD or DVD. I'm funny that way....

I'd love a tiny little tape recorder.
My husband is easy to buy for. He needs everything! I can't get my oldest son clothes since he shops for himself and has more than he has space for them. The other two are on the computer a lot and I don't necessarily want to encourage it by getting them computer games. It's hard this year. I don't know.

As far as myself, I'd like some t-shirts featured on the unshelved.com website. They're nifty for library workers like myself and I've always wanted one.
For everyone else, I usually get gift cards unless they specifically say that they want something. I don't try to guess what they want to buy, so I usually get them one from either Best Buy or Old Navy.

This year I'd like some paintings for the bare walls in my living room...or a shotgun...how's that for an eclectic mix of gift giving ideas?
And I know what I'm already getting my friends and family...I just haven't actually made the purchases yet.
