I know for a fact that this remedy works, I used it for the first time this year, put 2oz of cider vinegar and two drops of liquid dishwashing soap in a small juice glass and leave set out, I actually done up several of the glasses and set around in the house, in a couple of days look thru the bottom of the glass, you won't believe how many fuit flies are in the bottom. Good Luck, this worked like a charm for me, no more fruit flies.

Put a piece of fruit (a slice of ripe peach works very well) in a jar with a little water in the bottom. Then secure a piece or cellophane over the top with a rubberband put don't streach the plastic tight. Poke a few small holes in the plastic.
The flies will go in for the fruit and get trapped (the loose cellophane makes it harder to find the holes to get back out).
It will take a few days to trap all the flies.
Same basic idea as the cone and fruit combo mentioned earlier.
Give the place a good cleaning, too, to eliminate any other food source. Pour some bleach down the sink to kill any that are breeding in the drain on bits of food stuck there.

Make a cone out of paper with a small opening. Tape this to a glass with a bit of fruit in the bottom. The flies will get in but can't get out. Release them outside and repeat. This will get rid of a large amount quickly. Of course you need to eliminate other food sources and clean well.

Found a link for you too, they mention using cider vinegar, which will drown them.

old potatoes can cause fruit flies. search the back of all of the cupboards to make sure there isn't anything hidden. old beer bottles or cans can also cause them, so throw out any garbage. look for hidden garbage too.

it seems to be the hidden stuff that needs to be thrown to fix the problem.
