There was an outrage when former British foreign minister J. Straw called for Muslim women to remove the veils in his country. How come that nobody is protesting that in Saudi Arabia all women, including non muslims have to have the veil, cannot drive, work or even be outside if not escorted by a male family member?

Muslim women must wear the veil because a woman's hair can turn a man on - fact. Muslims are very sensitive when other people provoke their strict laws. J (Does this stand for Jackass?) Straw, should just mind his own business. Does he have an obsession of wanting to look at Muslim women's hair? And why doesn't he tell the nuns to remove their veils too? The muslim population of the World is upset because Bush and Blair are murdering lots of them in the middle east and they are being portrayed as villans much of the time.

Actually, I think Straw is right and veils should be banned but banning things never works Muslim women must affect change themselves and his comments are deeply insensitive at this time in history.

Straw went against the supression of women in Britian which does NOT condone that. Britian is a free country and if the women want to remove the veil etc so be it Go for it sister.,

Well I dont know who this Straw charactar is but that seems like hes just asking for trouble, asking them to remove the veil. If its part of their religion or customs why should they have to change it. No one is protesting Saudi Arabia, because thats just how things are there. At some point you have to accept that different people have different ideas about things and the ways of one dont work for all.

sure it quite is super for him to ask. it quite is super for them to say no, which they do no longer seem to have finished while asked. donning a veil over the face isn't mandated by the Islamic faith. it quite is a prepare in some sectors and communities. it is own selection.

Because he is a bigotted little Jewish war criminal who should be on trial alongside Blair for the illegal war in Iraq. In the UK we are not normally happy to have our politicians tell us what we can or cannot wear.

Good question. This constant 'Muslim outrage' at the drop of a hat is becoming irritating. If they want to hide their women in their countries, fine. But, we like to look at and appreciate ours.

That is their culture. Disagreeing with other cultures and forcing others to conform to ours is the reason wars start. Western culture is not superior - only different. Asking a Muslim woman to unveil is like asking you to remove your blouse.
