I wonder if one could make his/her own philisophy like that of traditional schools of thought such as: pragmatism (Dewey) idealism (Froebel) and realism (Pestalozzi) ; and contemporary schools of thoughts like perrenialism (Hutching), essentialism (Conant), etc. and make him/her the proponent of it. If you were to have one what philsophy would it be?

I think children should be able to learn the way best suited or the individual, but also have a chance to share those with others. In Japan, group work is the norm which lowers the "Me against everyone else" attitude. No one wants to take responsibility for his/her actions and I think the way our school teach is one of the biggest contributing factors.

Example: Bob didn't get the promotion at work but Ed did (I made them both men so not to confuse w/ gender issues...another big problem). Most likely, Bob will not say, "Ed is more qualified, had a better interview and deserves the job." But he will likely say, "I am just a if not more qualified than Ed. He only got it because the supervisor likes him better." You get the idea.

Sorry, this is long. There needs to be more mutual respect everywhere and I believe the best place to begin is with how we teach our children.

I shall call it: The Mutual Model of Teaching

The "What is Your Educational Philosophy" question is stupid.

It will change many times over your career.

If teachers examine what their philosophy is and what they practice in the classroom, the differences can be hypocritical at best.

In short, for your assignment, borrow a little from this guy and a little from that guy, until you have what YOU feel today.

The professor doesn't want to read it anyway. (S)he reads 100's every year, and they all start to blend together.

Pay your money ~~ Get your degree.

THEN, make a difference in the lives of your students in your classroom.

This quesion appears to be an assignment for an Ed course that you are taking and you should be doing your own work on this paper, not skimming off those of us who are answering your question.
