The proof is very simple though the thing is very great .Great things are always very simple and so simple that we do not take care of them or care to understand them:
Space is limitless.
Hereunder is my proof of the infinite( limitless )character of space :
Only when somethng has no limits and of any sort , beginning , end , depth or height or any sort of circumscription , it is called infinite. That is it should have no finality . -should have no finite measurements , or boundaries or limits .
space is nothing - It is a void - emptiness. A "thing" which is a "thing" will have some limits and shape. Even invisible things like gases are like that . . Anything that is a matter will have a shape and limits of boundaries..But "VOID" - emptiness , being "NOTHING " can have no shape or boundary. In the entire univese there is nothing except the the only thing "space" , that can not have a shape . Space alone is the only thing that can not have any boundary or limits . This situation is simply inconceivable .to the human mind as it is used to a closed environment bounded by the force of gravity within the atmosphere of the earth . Anything without boundary will be beyond the field of vision of anything .That is a "singular" character that can never been seen at any time . It is emptiness . Emptiness is nothing . So it is "NO THING" .Because it is not a thing , it has no boundaries. It can be without boundary.If there are no bounaries , it is inifinity. It has no shape as it is not a "thing" (NO THING). But if that "No Thing" - the emptiness is not there , nothing can exst . If only there is some space , anything can exist . If therei s no space ,how can anything exist.? We say that there is space when there is nothing . Nothing is space .- nothing means , a thing or anything not being present - "vacant" . But we say that there is "space". space is "available " etc..Can we take a litttle bit of what we say "is" or what is "available" as space (emptiness) and keep it elsewhere ? Not possible .
It is the only thing that is a being of "NON-BEING"
When some thing has no boundary or limit , depth or height , how can it be finite? (finite means ,having limits ). So abscence of boundaries is infinity only.
It is neither big nor small. If it is big , there must be somehting igger and if it is small,. there must be something smaller too. If it is finite , there must be something beyond it. Because finite things should have limits and boundaries . . What could it be ? it should also be space or emptiness .so it is all space that can be without boundary merely becasue of the simple reason that it is "NO THING" at all. But it is stll thing a Being , though a "Non-being " .
. It can not be touched , it is unseen , unborn, undying , beginning less and endless . it has no middle . It is immovable ;, can not be divided and things stand divided in it . It is immovable , but things need it to move in . Things can not move it or move without it .Water never wets it ;. fire never burns it . Everything depeds on it for existence and it does not depend on anything for its existence ;. because it is nothing a "NO THING '. Even a speck of dust requires it to exist in..The universe itself depends on it to exist in and move in it.. Even a speck of dust needs it to exist .Every thing needs a space , to the minimum of its most compressible volume , to exist. All matters in the universe require the electrons and protons in the atoms of the elements of which they are composed of .; but the great space does not require the electrons and protons or any elements for its existence , but the electrons and protons and the atoms of all the subsances require the great space for thier existence . So it is a "NO THING" that is greater than the most powerful things that have made the universe and all the lives in it .It is in it that all things exist . It pervades everything. It is it's character of being nothing that gives it the quality of being infinite .It is the only THING that is also a "NOTHING" .So space is limitless.
' " The whole universe is pervaded
my unmanifest form;
all creatures exist in me ,
but I do not exist in them"

"though myself unborn, undying
the lord of creatures , i fashion nature
which is mine , and I come into being
through my own magic"

"The whole universe is pervaded
by my unmanifest form;
all creatures exist in me ,
but I do not exist in them"

"I am th eheat that witholds
and sends down the rains;
I am immortality and death;
both being and non-being am I"

No one knows because no one can prove it. The average distance between stars is 30 million million km.....and there are infinite stars in the universe.

It is generally said that the universe is ever expanding, so I would say that on that basis it is limitless.

Even if you had spaceship that could theoretically travel to the 'end' of the universe, you would die from any number of complications before you ever got close.

Besides, we are still all stuck on one planet so we won't be seeing the edge of the universe any time soon.

I recommend you read Bill Brysons "A Short History of Nearly Everything"

Yes that is the theory, if you really think about though it is quite scary we are a tiny planet in a gargantuan space that never ends, if space never ends then that can lead to the assumption that there is another form of life (ALIENS). We can't be the only life form in a space that never ends its just impossibly impossible. Plus it makes you think how stupid and silly our planets little arguments are. Lets just hope that is an ever expanding universe that we are the most advanced form of life because sooner or later we are going to be contacted. But we better get a move on and start building spaceships because we'll have to find a planet that can support human life before the sun burns out or the Koreans blow us to hell with their nukes.

Our Universe is a single atom comprising something else. It has a set size and set weight; defined by the energy contained within it.

The Universe is constantly pushing outward but it is also constantly squashing in on itself sending energy back to its core where it is pushed out again. The movement of energy from the edge of the universe back to its core happens at an immense speed and causes intense friction on every atom in its path

This intense friction releases heat and causes 'Entropy' it is because of this friction that we age. If the universe was constantly expanding through a limitless expanse occupied by absolutely nothing then it would not cause this friction; subsequently we would not succumb to the effects of entropy.

This basically means as the universe 'expands' it isn't really it is simply moving its energy from its core outward to its boundaries. Meaning when we [as in our atoms] eventually reach the boundary of our universe we will be transformed into pure energy and brought back to the core.

I don't believe that space is infinite. If you accept that space is expanding then surely that implies that you do not accept that it is limitless.

As for travelling to the edge that would not be possible as the universe has at times expanded faster than the speed af light so it would not be possible to travel there.

No one can give a correct answer to this question on this planet, despite all the posturing. To determine whether or not something is finite, you must be in position to observe its entirety or limits. Sending a space telescope of finite range in any which direction is not a sure way for such vastness. So the answer to your question, if you really need an answer, is unknown. It is all a question of relative size ( A theory I'm working on involving Time and Size rather than Space). Relative size in this particular case is of the utmost importance. We may be germs on the surface of a coin in the pocket of another being. So even if we determine the exact size of the being, we also have to consider the size of his planet and then of his solar system. Please note that our being may also be a person of restricted height. That is to say, short.

I believe that you first have to consider that everything we deal with in our world and beyond has parameters that we know exist.
It is just real hard for us to accept the fact that space may have always been. Maybe it has no limits.
And so, if that theory is valid, then there may indeed be no end to space and you could go on forever, provided you live long enough. LOL

Depends on your definition of "limitless." To us and in our perception I would answer yes. In truth, there are many varing theories about space that say that there is some limit or end to the universe.

No. If space is infinite then time would be inifinte and there would never have been a big bang.

The universe is actually expanding as well. Apparently.

Steven Hawking actually answered this question, or something like it.

Yes. The caveat is that we of course do not know if it is limitless or not. We make an assumption, albeit an educated one, that there must be space everywhere, and why not.
