Pheromones also cause girls and women who live together to menstruate at approximately the same time of the month. Scientists at Penn State believe this is an evolutionary step that was originally developed to prevent inbreeding among families because it is a phenomenon that is seen across the board in rodents and most other animals.

Yes. It is a well known phenomena. No body knows exactly why it happens, but some suggest that it is due to pheromones.
What is the advantage? Maybe because they ovulate at the same time. So for animals, males would have a greater chance of getting one of the females pregnant rather than a hit and miss type of scenario

It's absolutely true. Apparently research into this very subject noted that during the 2nd world war, women who were confined closely together all began to menstruate at the same time. adversely the severely under nourished prisoners also ceased menstruating at the same time. I'm sorry i can't remember the specific name of this study but it's conclusions were that when times are particularly difficult, a woman's body will react by keeping pace as it were with the competition for readiness to produce off-spring if survival of the fittest is what's at stake, or by ceasing all means of reproduction to ensure all the female's instincts are finely honed in to survive by not being at any physical disadvantage at vulnerable times.

Yes ... women release pheremones that their bodies can detect, aligning their periods.

When I would go to school, my period would be at a different time of the month from my mom and sister (who's also in school). But when I'd come home for summer, we'd all adjust and have them at the same time.

No. All women have began at different times so their period will probably do the same.
