My stepson has ADHD.He also owns an awesome sword with a dragons head handle.He chops weeds with it.You should see what he can do with a deer rifle.
He is 12 though, so if the kid is like 6 or something then yeah get him a wooden one to start out with.

No. Just point him in the direction of the hedge you want trimmed. He should be able to finish that job in about 20 minutes. Then have him chop up some wood for the winter. He has lots of energy. You get a whole lot of stuff done, and he builds his self-esteem. Win, win.

My six year old cousin has a bucket full of mushy apples with the express intention of using them for the sole purpose to Get Rid Of Slimey girlS. He is GROSS and informationally impaired.
He asked my Mother, the other day "How do ugly things like octopuses and hairy bugs reproduce? Are they actually attracted to each other?" My Mother shouted at him "IT'S 3AM! GO TO SLEEP!". When she left the room he said "Come to think of it, I wonder how people are attracted to one another".....
