I've known my girlfriend for five years, but we've only been dating a short time. We've talked about how we feel about one another quite often, and we have both admitted to being in love with each other for a long time, even before we began dating. I am more than ready to spend the rest of my life with her, but how do I know when to pop THE question? Things are complicated by the fact that we no longer live in the same state. I am in the military, and I'm stationed halfway across the country from her.

If you are sure that she is the one and you both love each other and you feel that you will be happy with her the rest of your life even through the bad times then you are ready to pop the question. When you come home again you get on your hands and knees and ask her. And then discuss the distance issue good luck and we all salute our troops over here in Illinois.

You obviously know each other quite well after five years, though only dating a short time. Is there a reason you want to rush proposing? I think in most cases both parties know that they want to get married before the question gets asked. Why don't you wait until you get to see her in person to ask her to marry you....it is important that she can remember how you proposed to her and how romantic it is. It will make her feel special for years to come.

Also, why don't you talk about it with her. Maybe she is not ready, but wants to explore her feelings a bit. Before my husband proposed to me, we had already talked about marriage. But, the proposal was still a surprise!

You were in combination lengthy sufficient to grasp each and every different good and make a reasoned judgement on whether or not you are each on this, longer term. You've regarded the causes at the back of the fights and placed those at the back of you. You love this girl and desire to be together with her, consistently. Um... what are you looking ahead to?
