If you are using "Outlook Express" go to "Tools" then to "Options" then "Receipts" and select then select the option which say notify you when the correspondence is read. Hope that help! God Bless you and the Southron People.

some pop3 accounts can request a receit, it pops up a little screen, but the reader doesn't actually have to send one.
you can use a web anchor, send a page in html and then when you see thatthe number has gone up, it has been read.

but some firewalls block that.....
its still the best bet,
