I have heard that if your mother did not have stretch marks, you are less likely to have them. I made it through my first pregnancy without stretch marks, but now I am only 30 weeks and i have a feeling I won't be so lucky this time due to the way that I am growing and the itching on my abdomen.I'm using mederma and cocoa butter to help prevent. Any other suggestions?

I'm afraid your genes are going to win over any advice about preventing stretch marks. There is no magical cream that will make your stretch marks disappear or prevent them. Drinking water is not going to stop the stretch marks from happening. Gaining weight steadily and within the weight range the doctors tell you to won't even stop you from getting stretch marks. The only thing you can do if you are predisposed to get stretch marks is to try to take steps to lessen the severity of them: creams, drinking water, not gaining too much weight too fast, etc.

I tried everything: the creams, the water, the weight gain (i'm 36 weeks and have only gained 35 pounds) and nothing worked for me. My mom had them pretty bad and i have followed in her footsteps. Don't fret about them! If stretch marks are the only lasting reminder of childbirth, that's a small price to pay for a healthy child.

honey my mom popped out three children and never had any stretch marks and she was very petite. I was 116 when I gave birth to my son, and the stretch marks were bad, and than I gave birth to my daughter and the marks were horrible, apply lotion (palmers) everyday, don't make the mistake not to.
