Sad songs? If you wanna be cheered up, don't you want happy songs...? If happy- pretty much anything by the Adicts is energetic and on the happier end.
If you're SURE you want sad, something by The Clash maybe? Straight to Hell by them is really sad, and a gorgeous song if you know how to listen to it (I know, I know- Gorgeous punk??? But it's in the ear of the behearer... hehe...). Ghetto Defendant also- both of those are from their sell-out CD, but they're good nonetheless. Just look for the Clash and you'll find something.
Or maybe... X? When Our Love Passed Out on the Couch? White Girl? We're Desperate is a good song, but it's more angry sounding that sad. Of course, I always choose angry songs when I'm feeling sad. Probably because I'm usually sad for five seconds before I suddenly become pissed. It's a defense mechanism, I guess.
If you REALLY want sad- DEFINITELY get Blur, by Blur.
Depressing as hell. I dunno though- I kinda like it (which is unusual, cause I'm not normally big on emotional ****).
Generation X- "Untouchables" and "Kiss Me Deadly" are kinda sad sounding...
Hmmmm... Can't think of any more.

Go to walmart.com and type in the CD's names and listen to the samples of the songs or go to launch.com and type in artists or song names and listen to them.
