I worked for CalorGas for many years and back in 1974 I bought a Calor Rep's car that was converted to LPG. It was certainly more cheaper that petrol, I was getting staff discount as well.
Advantages: you still have the choice of running it on either fuel. The price is about 40% cheaper than petrol. If you do a big mileage you will definitely save on fuel costs, even allowing for the installation costs. You will be doing the environment alot of good too.
Disadvantages: The extra tank takes up some boot (trunk if you're a yank) space. Small mileage, say up to 10000 a year, not really an advantage
I had my car here in N Ireland during the Ulster Workers Strike when filling stations were closed, except for those taken over by the British army. People were in panic and there were long queues at these but I drove throughout the strike smiling at them because I was on LPG

If you rebuild the car as a dedicated LPG car, so it runs only on propane and the engine has been rebuilt to run optimally on it, you can expect up to 90% of the mileage of the same type of engine on gasoline. The biggest part of optimizing an engine for LPG is raising the compression ratio to take advantage of the higher octane rating of LPG. If, on the other hand, you set the car up to run on either propane or gasoline, or you don't do anything to the engine besides converting the fuel system, you can usually get up to about 80% of the gasoline mileage. In short, if you start with a car that gets 20MPG on gasoline, you can get about 18MPG if you optimize the engine to LPG and about 15-16MPG if you don't. However, a few of the advantages of LPG are that the car will put out about 1/10th of the harmful pollution that it did when burning gasoline, and because the fuel is so much cleaner and less caustic, the engine can last up to twice as long. If you are serious about converting a car to LPG, do a lot of research, and once you think you know all you need to know, go for it!

You can only put LPG ( liquid petroleum gas ) on a petrol car NOT a diesel you will get more or less the same mileage per gallon as petrol but performance will be done about 5% . I have LPG on my jeep and its great petrol is about 0.84p a litre gas is 0.47p a litre is saves me a fortune.

yes you will use more lpg
eg 1 liter petrol gets you 10 km
1 liter lpg gets you about 8 km
it is cheaper to run lpg but keep the mixture rich
if your car is a over 5 years old then think again it takes the average driver about 7-10 years to recoup the cost

With the LPG installation u will surely get more mileage compared to th petrol or diesel but if you do get it installed by a professional than it becomes a moving death boon with you so be sure u get it done by an autho. dealer of it and it is surely worth getting it installed

LPG (liquid propane gas) in my part of the USA is selling for about $2.50 per gallon, or nearly the same as unleaded regular gasoline. LPG has less thermal energy per gallon, and will give about 20% lower MPG than gasoline when used in an automobile engine, but it will burn cleaner and you can grill steaks with it!
